1. The Short Version

This policy describes what GreenScope does today. If we ever add cloud features in the future (like backing up your stats or syncing across devices), we will update this policy and you will be able to choose whether to opt in.

2. What GreenScope Does With Your Data

GreenScope works entirely on your device. When you scan a green, your iPhone's LiDAR sensor and camera capture the data, the on-device prediction model produces a putting line, and the result is shown to you. Nothing is sent to us.

When you log a putt outcome, the result is saved in the app's local storage on your phone. Your round history, statistics, and tendencies are computed from that local data. None of it leaves your device.

2.1 What's stored on your device

WhatWhy
An anonymous device identifier (a random UUID generated on first launch)To organise your local data. Never transmitted off your device.
Your putting outcomes — made or missed, putt count, optional distance and slopeTo compute your stats and personalise your reads on-device.
Your rounds and hole-by-hole historyTo show you your round history and progress.
Recent scan replays (heightmaps from your scans)For 3D replay and share cards. Older scans are automatically deleted.
Your selected course and round preferencesSo the app remembers where you played.

2.2 What we receive on our servers

Nothing. GreenScope does not transmit your scan data, putting outcomes, location, or any other personal data to any server we operate.

The only data that leaves your device through GreenScope is when you tap the share button on a result card and choose to send it via Messages, WhatsApp, social media, or another app. That's your choice, sent through the app you choose, not through us.

3. Permissions GreenScope Requests

GreenScope needs three iPhone permissions to work. All sensor data is processed on your device.

You can grant, deny, or revoke any of these permissions at any time in your iPhone's Settings app under Privacy & Security. Some features will not work without the required permissions — for example, you cannot scan greens without camera and motion access.

4. What We Don't Do

5. Subscriptions

GreenScope is currently free during launch. When paid subscriptions become available in a future update, payment will be handled entirely by Apple's App Store through StoreKit. We do not see or store your payment details, billing address, or credit card information — Apple manages all of that. We only receive notification from Apple of whether you have an active subscription.

6. Course Data Attribution

GreenScope uses golf course location data from OpenStreetMap, an open community-maintained map of the world. The course database is bundled inside the app — we download it once when you install GreenScope, and your location is matched against it locally on your device. We do not send your location to OpenStreetMap.

Course data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

7. Your Rights

Because GreenScope does not collect personal data on our servers, there is no server-side account to access, export, or delete. Your data lives entirely on your device.

To delete all of your GreenScope data, delete the app from your iPhone. This removes all locally stored data permanently.

7.1 If you are in California (CCPA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, to opt out of any sale (we don't sell anything), and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. As described above, we don't hold personal information on our servers.

7.2 If you are in the EEA or UK (GDPR)

You have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing of personal data we hold. As described above, we don't hold personal data on our servers. The lawful basis for the limited on-device processing required to run the app is performance of contract — you've installed the app to read greens, and it processes your scan data on your device in order to do that.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children's Privacy

GreenScope is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app and you have concerns, please contact us.

9. Changes to This Policy

This policy reflects what the app does today: it works locally on your device with no cloud component.

If we introduce cloud features in the future — for example, backing up your putting history, syncing across multiple devices, or improving the prediction model from anonymised scan data — we will:

You will always be able to keep using the app in its current local-only mode if you prefer.
